- One of the oldest golf clubs in the country is Caledon. This Overberg Golf Club was founded in 1908 and held its first annual meeting in 1909.
This makes the club 113 years old this year and it is something that the Caledon club as well as the Boland Union can be very proud of. - The course was built by the members themselves and through the years all the improvements and upgrading of the course was done loyal and hard-working members. The course was laid out in bushveld and after the members cleared the veld, they built sand greens. Later came the oil greens.
- Towards the end of the 1960s the club was able to water the tees and by the mid-1970s the rebuilding of the greens began, and grass was planted. By the end of the 1970s, the club was in a position to water the greens, fairways and tees and by now, the Caledon Golf Club was considered as one of the best golf clubs in the rural area (platteland).
